“Students learned real-world information (finances, pricing, stocks, etc.) through a hands-on experience. Students experience math; they don’t just learn it.” – 5th grade teacher
BizKid Award

2009-2010 BizKid Award

Attention Teachers! Give your students the opportunity to win up to $250.00 in the BizKid Competition!
Many teachers have stated that their students are full of original business ideas after participating in the BizWorld program. Why not give them a chance to make those dreams a reality? If your students are in grades 3-8 and have completed any of The BizWorld Foundation’s programs this year, they are eligible to enter. Students can enter individually or as a team.

To enter, students should describe their business idea by uploading a two-minute “Elevator Pitch” to YouTube.

The BizWorld Foundation believes that engaging students through technology is critical for effective teaching and learning in the 21st Century. The BizKid Award gives students an authentic showcase to become entrepreneurs in the real world!

We are not concerned with video recording quality; videos from webcams and cell phone cameras are sufficient. We also understand that YouTube is not accessible in some school sites. However, you can help prepare your students to upload videos from home. In order to help you scaffold your student’s applications, we have created lesson plans to help ensure that your student’s submissions are accepted. Follow the steps below to submit your Elevator Pitch:

1. Introduce students to the contest
2. Use My Own Biz to help them develop their ideas
3. Use the Elevator Pitch Lesson and Sample to help students develop an elevator pitch
4. Have students practice and record their pitch
5. Use the video upload directions (see page 2 of pdf) to upload pitch to The Bizworld Foundation YouTube Group
6. Email/Mail/Fax the Student Permission Form to The BizWorld Foundation
7. Customize the BizKid Award Press Release to announce the contest in your community

This is a great way to teach your students presentation and critical thinking skills while also giving them the chance to start their own business! Depending on the quality and quantity of the applications submitted, multiple awards may be presented. If you would like to highlight your students’ work to your local media, here is a resource to help you with this process.

The deadline to upload videos and submit applications is June 1st, 2010. Permission forms can be emailed to info@bizworld.org or mailed/faxed to:
