It’s amazing to think back on our early beginnings as a small, Bay Area non-profit and to see how far we’ve come—almost 200,000 children reached in all 50 states and 84 countries! We are thrilled with the progress we have made, and we are so looking forward to making our next ten years even more successful.
To celebrate this milestone, The BizWorld Foundation will be hosting our 10th Anniversary Education Luncheon on December 4, 2007 at the St. Regis Hotel in downtown San Francisco. We are honored that Chad Hurley, Co-Founder of YouTube, will be on hand to share his thoughts on the importance of entrepreneurship and business education for children. This exciting event will bring together some of the most influential and innovative business leaders and educators, and we would love to have you join us! There’s no better way to kick-off the holiday season than by showing your support for all the children who have benefited from BizWorld’s programs. You can also contact Ashley Parsons, Development Director, for more details at (415) 503-5880. |
Grand Prix 7 |
On May 16, 2007, ten go-kart teams representing a variety of Silicon Valley companies geared up at the starting line for The BizWorld Foundation’s 7th Annual Grand Prix. An excited crowd of 100 spectators gathered to cheer on their favorite team as BizWorld Founder and Chairman Tim Draper waved the green flag at the starting line and drivers jockeyed for position on the track. Friendly wagers on “Fastest Lap” and “Slowest Lap” were collected by volunteers and BizWorld staff, with prizes generously donated by the Moana Hotel and Restaurant Group, Mercury Fitness Pilates Center, Junoon Restaurant, and more. Partygoers also spent time trying their luck at the black jack table, with all proceeds going to support The BizWorld Foundation’s programs and outreach. In the end, track sponsor Palo Alto Investors took home both the gold and silver medals in a spirited award ceremony where all teams were recognized for their sponsorship and participation. Thanks to all of our corporate partners and event attendees for making this year’s event another success!

We’re thrilled to announce that Itzik Cohen, CEO of ClipSync, has recently been appointed as the new Chair of The BizWorld Foundation ’s California Advisory Council. In this capacity, he will oversee our efforts to bring BizWorld and BizWiz to schools across California. Itzik is also a generous supporter and enthusiastic volunteer—he recently volunteered to teach BizWorld in a local classroom, and was so energized after working with the children that he has decided to sponsor BizWorld in his 10 year-old daughter’s class!
Congratulations, Itzik! |
Welcome Ashley Parsons, BizWorld’s New Development Director! |

| The Buzz about BizWorld: The Latest Ways to Get Involved |
There are many ways to get involved and support our efforts to bring financial and business education into the classroom. Here are just a few:
- Sponsor a class or district in your area: Our primary goal is to get our programs into classrooms across the country, and we rely on our friends and partners to tell us where we are needed most! For $159, you can bring a BizWorld or BizWiz kit to a new classroom as well as provide all of the training and support a teacher needs to implement the program successfully. Click here to become a sponsor.
- Show your support at our December Education Luncheon: Get your colleagues together and sponsor a table! Our event offers great community visibility for your company and gives you the opportunity to network with some of Silicon Valley’s greatest business leaders. Table sponsorships are available for $5,000, $10,000, and $15,000. Contact Ashley Parsons at (415) 503-5880 for more information. Click here to sponsor a luncheon table.
- Teach a BizWorld or BizWiz class: There is no better way to get involved than to teach a class! Volunteering in a BizWorld or BizWiz class is an incredibly rewarding and unforgettable experience. It’s also a great team building event for companies looking for community service opportunities. Contact Kristen Mjoseth, program coordinator, for more information on ways to volunteer.

A long time friend and supporter of The BizWorld Foundation, Rob Goldberg brings a diverse background in the hospitality industry to The BizWorld Foundation Board of Directors. Currently Rob is President of the Moana Hotel and Restaurant Group and oversees more than 21 properties. His involvement with The BizWorld Foundation came shortly after Rob finished as a finalist in the Ernst and Young Entrepreneurship Competition. As Rob says, "BizWorld takes an intimidating proposition, a 10 year old trying to understand how a business works, and makes it fun and engaging. It is amazing to see the enthusiasm that kids have for this program. It makes me wonder how differently these kids will approach their first business experience- my guess is that it will be with considerably more confidence." |

When customers bring in their own bags for groceries, they have the option to receive a five cent credit (per bag) or to donate the five cents to a selected non-profit organization. The BizWorld Foundation is fortunate to have been chosen as one of the non-profit recipients of this program during the months of October, November, and December. The BizWorld Foundation team believes that by teaching young children the basics of financial education at an early age, we are creating the next generation of future business leaders. We love knowing that our programs are inspiring both girls and boys to dream big; in fact, we find that girls are especially drawn to our programs because they learn to lead confidently and think entrepreneurially. With this in mind, we’ve partnered with DivineCaroline, an online community where women can write and publish stories about anything that matters to them—including The BizWorld Foundation! Please come and explore the Stories, Reviews, and Forums. When you’re ready to join in, registration is fast and free at DivineCaroline.com
